Get Rid of Those Stubborn Fat Pockets with Liposuction

Everyone has them — stubborn pockets of fat that are indifferent to your most diligent efforts to remove them. You try dieting. You try exercise. But the fat pockets just keep keeping on.

Maybe it’s time to give those fat pockets the treatment they deserve and suction them away with liposuction by Dr. Moskovitz.

Not a weight loss procedure

First off, liposuction is not intended to be a weight loss procedure. It is meant to be a body contouring procedure for people within 10% of their normal weight. Liposuction is intended to remove pockets of fat that don’t respond to changes in diet or exercise.

Your liposuction options and the procedure

LiposuctionUsually, Dr. Moskovitz performs liposuction in our Paramus offices. But occasionally when much larger areas are to be covered, the procedure could need to be performed in a hospital under general anesthesia. Most times, though, a tumescent fluid solution provides the pain control. The fluid is made up of a mixture of saline, epinephrine (to control bleeding), and lidocaine (to provide local anesthesia to the treatment area).

After mapping out the treatment areas, the procedure begins with Dr. Moskovitz making a series of small incisions. He then injects the tumescent fluid into the area to be treated. Next a small cannula is inserted through the incisions and moved in a side-to-side motion to break up and remove the fat and tumescent liquid.

In some cases, either ultrasound-assisted liposuction or power-assisted liposuction is used. With ultrasound, the soundwaves liquefy fat cells prior to them being suctioned out. A motorized cannula is used in power-assisted procedures where the treatment area has a good amount of fibrous tissue or is difficult to access.

Afterwards

Patients will have a significant amount of tumescent fluid drain for the first 24 hours after their procedure. This is totally normal and the fluid will have some blood mixed in with the saline. Patients need to wear compression garments over the treatment area for from two to four weeks. This helps the skin adapt to its new contour and helps minimize swelling.
